Née en Suisse en 1983, Anne Golaz est diplômée de l’Ecole de photographie de Vevey. Après avoir intégré la School of Visual Art à New York (SVA), la photographe étudie à l’Université d’Art et Design d’Helsinki où elle obtient son Master en 2013.
Son travail photographique se caractérise par un intérêt pour le monde rural et l’évocation de nos rapports complexes avec la nature. Elle développe un langage visuel contrasté, à l’esthétique parfois picturale et sa démarche oscille entre le documentaire et la fiction. En 2010, elle remporte le concours de l’Enquête Photographique du canton de Fribourg et produit un travail personnel intitulé «Chasses». Représentative de cet intérêt, la série publiée en 2010 chez Infolio a été sélectionnée par le prix Aperture, New York. Anne Golaz a figuré également parmi les photographes désignés par le Musée Elysée de Lausanne pour la publication «ReGeneration2», en 2011. En Finlande, où elle a vécu plusieurs années, elle réalise “Metsästä (From the Woods)” qui a gagné la mention lumière du Festival Image de Vevey en 2012 et dont la publication aux éditions Kehrer fait partie de la sélection d’Aperture Paris Photo Book Award de 2012.
Entre 2004 et 2015, elle réalise la série «Corbeau», et invite le spectateur dans la maison de son enfance, une ferme qu’elle photographie et raconte depuis plus de 13 ans. «Corbeau» - qui trouve son titre dans le poème homonyme d’Edgar Allan Poe, est habité par les thèmes existentiels de la disparition, du souvenir de la fratrie et l’héritage familial. Un personnage principal, jeune homme tôt mis au travail, traverse cette histoire, racontée par de multiples couches narratives qui s’entrecroisent et se répondent. Imprégné d’un sens apparent du devoir et de la loyauté, on voit alors le jeune homme peu à peu gagné par un doute qui frappe de vertige le récit tout entier et convoque une réflexion plus large sur la vie, la destinée, et les rapports entre les morts et les vivants. En 2016, «Corbeau» est exposé lors du Swiss Design Award. Un ouvrage est publié par les prestigieuses éditions londoniennes MACK, il figure parmi les meilleurs photo books de la sélection d’Aperture Paris en 2017. «Casa Isla», sa série la plus récente s’étend de 2017 à aujourd’hui. A partir de l’île de Robinson Crusoé au large des côtes chiliennes, elle explore les thèmes de l’exil, de l’isolement et de la mémoire dont le premier chapitre mêle photographie, dessin et écriture. En 2020, elle reçoit la Bourse Arts Plastiques du Canton de Vaud dans le but de continuer ce projet.
Lors de l’édition 2018 des Rencontres photographiques d’Arles, Anne Golaz, représentée par la Galerie C, a exposé la série «Corbeau» dans le cadre du Nouveau Prix Découverte. Son travail a depuis été montré en Inde, à l’occasion du GoaPhoto Festival (2019), au Musée des Beaux-Arts du Locle dans le cadre de la collaboration artistique entre l’institution et le Réseau Hospitalier Neuchâtelois (RHNe) intitulée «Loin des Maux» (2020-22), à la gallery Napa à Rovaniemi dans l’exposition «With giant steps – and other stories» (2020) ou encore au Musée Alpin Suisse à Berne dans l’exposition «À l’affût» (2021-22). La photographe prend actuellement part à l’exposition collective «L’un pour l’autre» au sein de Photo Elysée (2023-24). Elle est représentée par la Galerie C (Neuchâtel/Paris) et travaille en ce moment sur divers projets entre le Nord de la Finlande et la Suisse. Ses prochaines expositions «Faire (avec)» et «Quand les images prennent soin» auront lieu en 2024 au Musée de Bagnes, au Châble (VS) et au Centre de la Photographie à Genève.

Born in Switzerland in 1983, Anne Golaz graduated from the Vevey School of Photography. After attending the School of Visual Art in New York (SVA), the photographer studied at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, where she obtained her Master's degree in 2013.
Her photographic work is characterized by an interest in the rural world and the evocation of our complex relationship with nature. She develops a contrasting visual language, with a sometimes painterly aesthetic, and her approach oscillates between documentary and fiction. In 2010, she won the “Enquête Photographique du canton de Fribourg” competition and produced a personal work entitled “Chasses”. Representative of this interest, the series published in 2010 by Infolio was selected for the Aperture Prize, New York. Anne Golaz was also one of the photographers selected by Lausanne's Musée Elysée for the 2011 publication “ReGeneration2”. In Finland, where she lived for several years, she produced “Metsästä (From the Woods)”, which won the Mention Lumière at the Festival Image de Vevey in 2012 and was published by Kehrer Editions as part of the 2012 Aperture Paris Photo Book Award selection.
Between 2004 and 2015, she created the “Corbeau” series, inviting the viewer into her childhood home, a farm she has been photographing and narrating for over 13 years. “Raven” - which takes its title from Edgar Allan Poe's poem of the same name - is inhabited by the existential themes of disappearance, the memory of siblings and the family legacy. A main character, a young man put to work early on, runs through this story, told through multiple narrative layers that interweave and respond to each other. Imbued with an apparent sense of duty and loyalty, we then see the young man gradually overcome by a doubt that strikes the entire narrative with vertigo and summons a broader reflection on life, destiny, and the relationship between the dead and the living. In 2016, “Corbeau” was exhibited at the Swiss Design Award. A book is published by the prestigious London editions MACK, and it features among the best photo books in the 2017 Aperture Paris selection. “Casa Isla”, his most recent series spans from 2017 to the present day. Based on Robinson Crusoe's island off the coast of Chile, it explores themes of exile, isolation and memory, with the first chapter mixing photography, drawing and writing. In 2020, she received the Arts Plastiques grant from the Canton of Vaud to continue this project.
At the 2018 Rencontres photographiques d'Arles, Anne Golaz, represented by Galerie C, exhibited the “Corbeau” series as part of the Nouveau Prix Découverte.
