Quel est le langage du vivant ? Que percevons-nous vraiment du réel ? Pour sa première exposition personnelle « Universal Law of the Matrix » à la Galerie C-Paris, Maya Rochat continue de s’intéresser aux images et de les questionner. Elle se penche sur celles qui, complexes, sont en mutation constante et le fait grâce à des médiums divers. Pour ce nouveau chapitre, cette suite de la série « Poetry of the Earth », l’artiste suisse romande utilise, en effet, des films polarisants ou d’impression offset sur laminage holographique. Par leur biais, elle propose ainsi des images multidimensionnelles, des images intrinsèquement liées à l’expérience physique et aux mouvements des visiteurs.
L’interaction des images est au cœur de sa pensée : on le voit avec ses collages (jets d’encre sur papier métallisé) qui, réagissant à la lumière et au mouvement, font apparaître de nouvelles images, parfois en trois dimensions. Dans les œuvres de Maya Rochat, le spectateur est activement intégré à l’œuvre qu’il regarde, l’artiste semble avoir à cœur de lui donner une place, de le faire réfléchir. Ses émotions sont, elles aussi, essentielles : depuis quelques années, Maya Rochat utilise la couleur comme un outil émotionnel puissant, créant des environnements percutants. « Les couleurs vives, imprimées en grand format, diffusent une énergie positive », explique la plasticienne de 38 ans qui, telle une chercheuse, explore les différentes possibilités de la matière ainsi que ses dimensions poétiques et sensibles.
L’exposition « Universal Law of the Matrix » se déroule en parallèle de l’exposition monographique « Poetry of the Earth » que la Maison Européenne de la photographie (MEP) consacre à Maya Rochat du 07.06 au 01.10.2023 à Paris.

What is the language of the living? What do we really perceive of reality? For her first solo exhibition "Universal Law of the Matrix" at Galerie C-Paris, Maya Rochat continues to question and explore images. She focuses on images that are complex and in constant mutation, using a variety of media. For this new chapter in her "Poetry of the Earth" series, the Swiss artist uses polarizing films or offset printing on holographic laminates. Through them, she proposes multi-dimensional images, intrinsically linked to the physical experience and movements of visitors.
The interaction of images is at the core of her thinking: we see this in her collages (ink-jets on metallized paper) which, reacting to light and movement, give rise to new images, sometimes three-dimensional. In Maya Rochat's work, the viewer is actively integrated into the work he or she is looking at, and the artist seems intent on giving the viewer a place and making him or her think. Her emotions, too, are essential: for some years now, Maya Rochat has been using color as a powerful emotional tool, creating striking environments. "Vivid colors, printed in large format, radiate positive energy," explains the 38-year-old visual artist who, like a researcher, explores the various possibilities of the material as well as its poetic and sensitive dimensions.
The "Universal Law of the Matrix" exhibition runs in parallel with the monographic exhibition "Poetry of the Earth" that the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) is dedicated to Maya Rochat from 07.06 to 01.10.2023 in Paris.
